Alyson is vicar of an urban priority-area parish in south east London. Her academic background is in Sociology and Social Anthropology and she was for ten years research fellow and lecturer in Health and Social Welfare at the Open University, developing courses in Death and Dying, Health Promotion and Mental Health. She has also worked in Nigeria and Papua New Guinea. Although her present post leaves little time for research, she has a strong interest in ethnic minority experience of health care. Being an ordained woman in a church which remains largely sexist keeps alive her passion for inclusivity.
